Bold, gritty and confident, Lapels fly straight-off the back of their debut EP this summer, with a compelling injection of ball-gripping indie/rock, in the form of ‘Digging For Gold’. First ever heard as a live performance, when the band headlined the MICANNES Conference earlier this year in Cannes, audience reaction was so forceful, that Marquee Records whipped the boys into the studio as soon as they landed back onto UK soil, capturing the magic in the recorded format. ‘Digging For Gold’ is released on 11 November. With live dates increasing and a debut album in the pipeline for 2023, Lapels are fast becoming the new kids on the block to watch out for.
Media critical acclaim has previously made bold comparisons between Lapels and the icons of our indie scene, from Artic Monkeys, The Verve, Oasis and Blur – these boys have always struck a reminiscent note with their audiences. But ‘Digging For Gold’ evolves beyond those enviable parallels, as the boys from Derby fuse every musical influence into a vocally Beatle-esque melodic melting-pot, to develop a sound that is genuine, unique and 100% Lapels. Robust dominant riffs and the rapidly evolving signature beats of drummer, Adam, work to underpin the distinctive voice of Andy Lewis, who steps up as front man on this track (fans will know that Nathan and Andy alternate vocals, dependent on who wrote the song).
Mature, focused and single minded, Lapels have found their feet and their foothold is unshakeable.
